Title: Tau XV107 from FW (Merged Thread)

Interesting take on the Riptide from Forgeworld, for those who want more firepower and didn't like the small head on the GW model. It's a bit like a larger version of the XV9, as shown by the comparison picture near the bottom of the page.

That headpiece looks like the head of the Russian Jaeger from Pacific Rim. And what on earth has it got on its arms?

I want one.

Well now my Riptide looks like utter shit. I need that one.

The more I look at it the more I do see Cherno Alpha and Striker Eureka in there.

I had to do it.

Awesome!!! Where would the rules be? This can be used under 2000 points?

No, and no. This is pretty much the beefed up version of R'Alai.

You see those pretty guns?

Quote from: 4chan /tg/The FW newsletter said it had "pulse submunition cannons", which sound distinctly like R'Alai's gun.

I'm guessing, scaled up for riptide:

R60" S6 AP4 Heavy 2 Large Blast Rending

With perhaps alt fire of

R60 S7 AP3 Heavy 2 Blast Ignores Cover Gets Hot

R60 S10 AP2 Heavy 2 Gets Hot

Nova charge bumps S of the templates

Mother. Fething. Boom.

My opinion is it doesn't really do much for the kit, and the obvious reference to "Pacific Rim" shows exactly where they got their designs from.

Really cant see it myself =/ I see more similarity between the russian whatsit and the Rakata from KotoR  :derp:

Looks 100% tau-ey awesomeness to me. 70 quid isnt too bad for this standard of superheavy resin army centerpiece either. Its begging for some LEDs to be added  to it :P

It's 20 bob for those arms and the head though. The rest is the standard kit by the look of it.

Oh wow, it looks.... really bloody ugly.

Those arms don't look like the usual Tau elegance, all wrapped up into some kind of nicely rounded plastic, and what is that head?

I was thinking I liked the legs... but then I realised they are from the original kit.

Bluegh.

I like it, but I'm curious on what defenses it will have.

There's obviously no shield.  Perhaps stealth field generators?

It also lacks the Twin Jetpack. I suspect this will be a less mobile, MAYBE T7 unit that is simply designed to be a gun platform.

You mean like a slightly bigger Broadside? Which the Tau already have? Or perhaps the Hammerhead, which fills the tougher role and combines it with movement?

No, bad Declis, you get angry when people do it with other things like the Stormraven, you cannot dislike this model just because it doesn't fit in with how you like Tau.

It would be better than both. Harder to kill than the Broadsides and impossible to knock the weapons off like the hammerhead. It would work at full capacity until it was dead. Broadsides lose output as they get worn down. If you can strap a shield generator to it then it will be very nicely survivable and be dishing out what looks like big hurt en masse.
