Title: Traitor Legion Speical Characters
Post by: Brassclaw on January 26, 2013, 07:52:19 AM
So I thought i could make traitor character for the legions that don't have them (Night Lords, Iron Warriors, Word Bearers Alpha Legion). So first i'm going to take a stab at the Night Lords. More will come later.

Thats a little bit OP in my mind. I'd think it would be fairer if only D3 or just 3 units gained the SR. If you were going to keep it as is, then he is severely undercosted. Most Special Characters with army wide boons, often cost more then 200pts.

Everything else seems fine.

Thats my two cents.

I guess that's fair, I thought it would be off set by the Without Faith rule. I guess i could change it that units could buy Stealth at a cost. Maybe 25pts per unit(like an icon) or 5pts a model (like a mark)

I think something similar to the Icons and Marks would be better. That way you can optimise specific units for certain tasks, rather than having to pay through the nose for you army to mediocre alround.

Chaos Artefact: Sus-an Membrane: No enemy army can claim victory points for slaying Zso Sahaal. This includes First blood and Slay the Warlord  and any other special rule
Every Space Marine has a Sus-an Membrance; you still get Victory Points for slaying them. This rule flat out has to be removed for anyone to take this character even remotely seriously.

I missed that. Yeah, Wargamer raises a good point :P

If you want to keep a similar rule in, I think you'll need to think outside the box for a genuine artifact.

A few more touch ups on Zso Sahaal were made. Next is the Iron Warriors character. Out of all the of the Iron Warrior character (and there is a ton of them) I think Honsou had the most complete fuff around him. Although i was tempted to make Chengrel (a chaos dreadnaught). Maybe another day.

As a Lord character, wouldn't Honsou have a Sigil of Corruption?

Well i thought stacking feel no pain and 4+ invul save might be over doing it (something have only abaddon has). Also not every lord has Sigil of Corruption, Kharn, Ahriman, Lucius and Bile don't. Hell, Typhus and Abaddon don't have them either and Bile doesn't even have an invul save at all

I was going to say much the same; the Sigil of Corruption is an optional upgrade, not something you get just for being a Chaos Lord.

Having played since early-mid Third Edition, I do not like letting Iron Warriors have four Heavy Support choices. It was a stupid idea when GW did it, and I still don't think it's particularly well balanced now.

What they did back in the day was make you drop 2 fast attack for that extra HS. That did not balance it as fast attack was poor then and HS was great. If you do that now it will easily balance your character because FA is by FAR the best choice in the chaos codex.

Yeah i understand that reaction, but there isn't a special rule that screams siege specialist that's useful. I guess i could make it a bit more restrictive. Something like, "  In a primary detachment that includes Honsou, one maulerfiend does not count towards a heavy support choice" and "Warpsmiths get to re roll Master of Mechanisms rolls"

That might work too

Well I suppose 5++ and FNP is technically better than a plain 4++. Makes sense to me.
