Title: warrior only force
Post by: Alpha_Wolf on June 15, 2012, 03:58:17 AM
I had the thought of running a pure warrior list a little earlier and thought I'd put it here. the premise is to use models based on warriors only, Warriors, Primes, Shrikes, The Parasite of Mortex, and Raveners. not necessarily all of them, but at least some of them. this is not a competitive design obviously, but I still want to know if it'll be good enough to have fun with and not just get slaughtered, so if anyone has experience with this premise, some tips would be much appreciated. while I'm at it, there are a lot of FOC slots open, so if anyone thinks of something else warrior-ey or that warriors would logically be associated with, I'll consider those later. prototype list tomorrow, but for now sleep.

Well, Shrike are Warrior-ey and provide some expensive mobility. Also, the Parasite of Mortex is about the same profile...

I'd also say that any mid-sized creature should be acceptable, so some Hive Guard, Zoanthropes and Lictors, just to add something different to the list.

Will this be hugely competitive? Probably not. Will it be fun? If you like playing it, yes. And if your friends aren't douches.

my main competition plays nurgle marines, terminator heavy, and some GK (though after our last game, I doubt he'll be playing them much) simply because it's not something I can easily deal with. does that count?

I used to run a 'medium bugs' list. So I've got the nidzilla, the gaunt swarmy list, but never historically went for many warriors. Something I didn't understand because I've got 12 of them!

My list look similar, but I instead had larger broods all round. My lash and bone guys are 5 strong and without adrenals, instead they had poison. If you are making them go at I 1, why does furious charge help you all that much? The other brood was 6 strong with VC and deathspitters. That S5 makes a big difference to me.

Used lictors as well (they are warrior-like) but also Zoanthropes. They are really the only reliable Anti-Armour that you've got. Didn't use shrikes, instead had gargoyles (its the models I've got). But I do feel like a fast aspect is required for this kind of list that otherwise lacks a lot of mobility and striking distance. I mean really, if your enemy does not WANT to go inot CC with those lash and bone warriors, what's stopping him from just backpedaling while pelting your ~45 point CC guys to death.

Well, it may be worth having a Mycetic Spore or two, so you can help those Warriors attack back board objectives.

Also, a Doom of Malantai in a Mycetic Spore is nasty and cheap (even with the nerfs).

But I really, really suggest getting some Hive Guard or (preferably) Zoanthropes, as you could REALLY use some decent anti-tank.
