Hi All,
There's been plenty of rumours going around about the starter set.

Well, i'm massively excited about the fact there IS a mini rulebook, I heard rumour that there wasn't, and I'm glad it's wrong. Not having to buy, and then lug around the big rulebook is a great reason to buy the set. Let alone the Dark Angel HQ choices that sound really cool, and I may have to buy with mates just for them.

It sounds like Chaos are going to be having a new codex soon, and with the models released in this set it seems like it should be a good one.

Dark Vengeance? Hellbrute? Chaos Dreadknight?

Quoteresplendent with his erect Power Sword!
Dear god, make the mental images go away  :facepalm001:

Overall sounds good. Might pick it up this edition. I sort'of missed last editions starter set, becuase I didn't want any Orks. Which is kind of a weird reason as I bought the fantasy starter twice, despite not wanting Skaven :P

Two armies I don't play in 40k and no friends who do. Still, I want the little rulebook. Though I don't need templates as I have a set. Wish they'd start selling the little rulebook by itself.

I don't know.....I mean I like the Chaos stuff, but right now I am nowhere near my Chaos Marines army and also I am now focusing on my Dark Eldar while I am in the US. Will have to see how attractive the models will be before I throw my money away....:shifty:

I'll wait and see what the Chaos models are like first of all, I might look into buying this set however I'm more likely to wait until the next Codex: CSMs comes out so I can just pick up the inevitable multi-part plastic kit of cultists (at which point, given that I'll have the codex, I'll know that they fit into my army and what combination I want).

I'm still glad that they're doing this as both armies really deserve updating.

I will definatly be getting this set. I am looking to really kick off with my chaos army and these new toys look like great fun. Especially all those cultists as fodder.

The nice thing about the starter set is the armies in it should make a decent force for allies, if nothing else. Not saying they'll be the most competitive choices you could take from either army, but nice added diversity for friendly games if they are armies you wouldn't have otherwise.

Meh, I'm not a fan of either army unfortunately, and the idea that they're making something perhaps similar to the Dreadknight for Chaos Space Marines is rather silly in my opinion...  Are they not going to get Daemon Princes anymore?

I will have to see the models to make a final decision but overall I just want the tiny rulebook.

I'm not sure GW will release separate kits for them. The deffkoptas from AoBR don't have their own kit, neither do many of the units from the Island of Blood set from warhammer. That said, it's not a big problem as it will be easy to find them for sale separately from bits websites and surely cultists in particular come in all sorts of shapes and sizes so they'll be easy to convert once you have the incentive that you can actually field them.

Wouldn't it make money-sense for Gw not to produce kits for units specially made for Starter set?

Think about it, people buy the Starter sets for Deffkoptas and that Skaven upgrade that has a name that escapes me.

Once the new/next Starter comes out, there is a chance GW would produce the kits, as they'll have a rough idea of the sales that said new kits would give them.

Or that make more money by making people buy a expensive box for 3 models. How much is the current 40k boxset? It's over 100 here in Aus.

I am excited by this set, and especially by the mini rulebook.  I especially look forward to the Dark Angel stuff and the Hellbrute, although I don't actually play either army. Unfortunately, I truly doubt I will be able to buy it given their pricing here is way more than I can afford.

All of my want for this set.

Heck, this box set just might make me start some Iron Warriors as a side army :P

I'm quite excited about the Hellbrute as well as those raggedy Cultists.

I just hope they look remotelly like the DOW2 ones.

Eeyup.

The Cultist gets the honourary mention as it is a perfect Traitor Guard platform in more ways than one. I can see a lot of people sucking lots of this from people who do not want to use Cultists to make their own guard army.

I had plans to begin a Pre-Heresy World Eaters army on account of my gaming group wanting to do a Horus Heresy campaign. Now I'm thinking I need to add some Post Heresy World Eaters to my shopping list as well...

Looks like GW are adding some life into their models. I'm almost reminded of the Space Hulk re-release Terminators when looking at the Deathwing.

Hell brute does look cool, but it just looks like a "Possessed" Dreadnought to me. I'm sure we'll see a few scratch-builds cropping up soon.
Title: Re: 6th Ed Starter Set Details
Post by: Chrono on August 18, 2012, 09:13:45 AM
those chosen makes me want the box just for them. cultists are good too. the hellbrute is a nice model, makes a good chaos dread if anything. maybe it's some sort of mutated marine just like the demon prince, but less leader-ish and more braindead berserker heavy support-ish
Title: Re: 6th Ed Starter Set Details
Post by: Wargamer on August 18, 2012, 01:46:46 PM
I'm starting to wonder if the Hellbrute will replace the Chaos Dreadnought altogether; based on its armament (the 'default' Imperial Dread combo of Multi-melta and ccw) it could well be put into the list and then have Chaos players simply count Chaos Dreadnoughts as Hellbrutes.

A part of me would actually like that. One thing I don't like about Chaos is the "Imperials with spiky bits" mentality. I would like to see the Codex do its best to steer away from that.

for those who noticed in the other rumour thread of releases, one line said Cult Hybrid upgrade Pack. that to me sounds like only stealer and nothing else, for the sake of the word HYBRID involved. look at it this way, a chaos cultist multi part set comes out, we get a stealer sprue for upgrading them to cult hybrids. WD allies option for nids?

The Chaos figures are not bad.  They're rather reminiscent of the current Possessed sculpts.  I don't think that I'll be tempted to buy any, but you never know.

The Cultists, by contrast, are more like mutants than humans to my mind, and I preferred the more uniform look of the sculpts from years past.  They may yet grow on me, but I remain to be convinced at this stage.

Personally I'm really looking forward to the Chaos Cultists.  It's been a dream of mine to do a cultists army and this will be the perfect start.  My other hope is to eventually get some kind of support for a Genestealer Cultist army as well.  This is definitely a step in the right direction for me.  AND THEN THEY GIVE ME MORE!!!  What's that?  You also wanna give me a beautiful set of Fallen Angels!?!?!  Who do I have to go down on for this..?
