I was looking at the Vespids and noticed they have move through cover. Which means they can fly into cover and not take a dangerous terrin check. Further more they have a +3 cover save in ruins which most games you have ruins. Also hit and run with a 6 I. They can go on a 3 level of a bulding for examle and blast a unit away and don't have to worry about being assaulted. If you try to climb up after them they can simply fly and fleet away.

I was thinking that an ethereal would work well with this unit since they can snap fire after running / fleeting in terrain. Marker lights can still increase their bs which mens snap fire isn't a big deal.

Why would an ethereal help the unit? He'd slow them down for movement.

I agree, I'd use them to take out small 3+ specialist units.  Between the weapons and even assaulting, they should finish off most small squads.  Don't forget that because they're jump infantry, they get Hammer of Wrath for a free I10 attack; even at WS3 and S3, that's still a fair shot to get a free kill.  Their biggest problem is the lack of assault grenades when doing so (again my biggest complaint about Kroot), but they make decent, if not semi-situational, harassment units.

Arguably, though, I think they'd be best used to move into ruins in the middle of the table and provide a 'no you don't' buffer zone.
I'm sorry Tony the Yodelling Shetland Pony can't sing tonight.  He's a little hoarse.

The fact that they get a decent armour save now is enough to make me consider them and a usable MEQ hunting unit. Their ability to move through cover means they can travel as the crow flies. and I suppose, with some luck, they could even hunt MCs with a 3+ save.

The Ethereal could be 12" away supporting them. As long as he starts 12" in the movment phase away from them he can give them his blessings. Also if you include movemment vespids can blast targets 30" away, 31-36 via ethereal. The goal is to move in terrain and be 12-18' away from a unit you can shoot at. If they advance up, you can relocate 12" away or use fleet if need be in another piece of terrain to re set up, or wash and rense again.

I fought against a unit of 12 recently, my opponent put 3 or 4 markerlight tokens on my 6 stealthsuits and I found them very, very gone as the 12 BS5 Vespids were able to ignore their armour and cover saves.

that is a good point. Thinking about it more i may drop my stealths and add broadsides. i forget that i may have to face another Tau army and taking a few sides wouldn't be a bad ideal with marker drones instead of stealth unts doing so,
